I actually use a few applications together - MCEBuddy picks up the files and renames/moves them as necessary, then uses ComSkip to remove commercials before it transcodes to a lower bitrate. You will want to "transcode" the files though, not just remux/change container. There are multiple applications that do that kind of thing, but what /u/Teem214 mentioned is probably the easiest. Then you're transcoding the media to a smaller bitrate and probably removing some of the audio or subtitles. Pulling an MKV off of a bluray/dvd is usually just "remuxing" - pulling parts of the original off in their original quality. What you're talking about is transcoding. It's only the container all of the "media" is in. You won't save any space between the two - the difference would be like painting your car a different color. ![]() In fact, MP4 has more limitations than MKV (no support for uncompressed audio or selectable/multiple subtitles). MP4 and MKV mean nothing, as they're just containers. You should spend time to get a better understanding of video file types and what they mean.
